history + background information about the origin
of the Vida Nueva line of wines. Also available in downloadable version.
The Vidanueva Tinto is a Tempranillo from
the D.O. Rueda, which gained D.O. status for red wines only a few years
ago. The Rueda D.O. lies on the south bank of the Duero river, sandwiched
between the D.O. Ribera del Duero to the east, and the D.O. Toro to the
west. This is excellent Tempranillo terrain with 35 - 40 year old vines
grown in chalky, minerally soils at high elevation, not unlike Toro and
Ribera del Duero The Bodega where it is sourced requests anonymity, as
it has wines already in the marketplace.
Vidanueva Tinto is an excellent example
of how great Rueda Tempranillo can be; big on the nose with classic mineral/gamey
tones, soft and supple, full of fresh red fruits, complexity, and balance.
The wine is aged in stainless steel for 4 months before bottling, the
wines profile is similar to Ribera del Duero and Toro.
